1951 Oldsmobile
Just a good dependable Rocket 88 automobile! It took me where I wanted to go in a hurry. The only problem with this car is that I wrecked it. I was coming south over the Bitterroot mountains in Montana after a major snowstorm when I came upon a truck whose driver was putting chains on the truck. He was on my side of his truck, the road was exceedingly slick, I had to make the decision to continue on and maybe hit the driver or run into his truck to stop me. I chose the latter. The damage was a crunched front fender and a lost headlight and some damage to the truck. I gave him my name and address so I could pay for his damage but I never heard from him. The car was still drivable so I drove it home to SLC Ut, had it fixed and was a good car with no more incidents until I traded it for a 1965 Pontiac Star Chief Hard Top.
1949 Oldsmobile
This is one car I was not very happy with. The first thing was with the automatic transmission. We went on a trip from Barstow to San Jose CA. On the way home the transmission did a strange thing, it dropped down into low gear and would not shift back up. Checked the fluid level and added some but did not help. Had to drive the remaining 45 miles home to Barstow in the low range. After it was repaired it shifted hard and was never the same but I drove it fast especially on the old route 66. This highway just followed the lay of the land down in the ravines and over the ridges up and down, quite a thrill. I traded this car in on a 51 oldmobile.
